The anticipation is building, the rosters are taking shape, and the Northern Super League is inching closer to its long-awaited kickoff! This week, teams across the league have been busy strengthening their squads with key signings, while players are hitting the pitch for the start of training camp.Â
Big Moves Across the League
Halifax Tides FC
Halifax bolstered its squad with two key additions. Anika Tóth, a highly regarded goalkeeper from Oakville, Ontario, joins the Tides after an impressive collegiate career at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She'll bring composure and quick reflexes to Halifax’s last line of defence. Also joining the squad is seasoned midfielder Gunnhildur "Gunny" Yrsa Jónsdóttir from Iceland, who brings experience from Stjarnan FC. Jónsdóttir’s leadership and vision will be crucial in dictating play from the midfield.
Montreal Roses FC
Montreal has reinforced its backline with three defensive signings. Hailey Whitaker, a right back from Birmingham, Alabama, arrives from Icelandic club Valur ReykjavÃk, bringing international experience to the Roses. The center-back duo of Lucy Cappadona (Marlborough, Massachusetts, University of Connecticut) and Julia Leas (Vienna, Virginia, Vittsjö GIK) adds strength and depth to Montreal’s defence. Expect the Roses to be a formidable force at the back this season.
Vancouver Rise FC
Vancouver made the biggest splash this week with a flurry of signings across all areas of the pitch. The club has secured goalkeeper Jessica Wulf (Nippon TV Tokyo Verdy Beleza) to provide stability in goal. The defensive reinforcements include Jasmyne Spencer (Angel City FC), Jessika Cowart (Perth Glory), Kennedy Faulkner (Canberra United), and Jaylyn Wright (Utah Valley University), ensuring Vancouver’s backline is one to watch.
The Rise also made attacking additions, signing winger Lisa Pechersky from Toronto, formerly with Vittsjö GIK, along with Swedish winger Sara Lilja Vidlund (Djurgårdens IF). Up top, Vancouver welcomes forward Mariah Lee (DC Power FC), whose pace and creativity will be an asset in breaking down opposing defences.
